Complacency can be a tricky thing. It sneaks up slowly without you even realizing it. It hides within that 30-second "break" on the couch and helps you rationalize why it's no longer necessary for you to get up to do that thing you thought was so important before. But over time, that feeling of comfort can lead to a lack of motivation, a lack of drive, and a lack of progress. Breaking free of the spirit of complacency is important for personal growth and achieving the small goals that lead to the BIG goals of your dreams. Here are some tips on how I break free of complacency DAILY (cause let's be real... it's a constant journey!)

  1. Identify the areas where you feel most complacent. Start by taking a good hard look at yourself and your life. Ask yourself where you're feeling stuck or stagnant. It might be your career, your relationships, your health, or your personal development. Once you identify the areas where you're feeling complacent, you become aware and can start taking steps to break free. For many, this is easier said than done but once we are able to get past our own limiting beliefs this is where the real change starts.

  2. Set new and challenging goals then reward yourself for getting them done! Setting new goals is a great way to break free from complacency. Choose goals that challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone. Whether it's learning a new skill, taking up a new hobby, or pursuing a new career, setting goals that require effort and dedication will help you stay motivated and focused. And after you complete those goals (no matter how big or small) treat yourself to something. Whether it be a self-care item from Target or clicking purchase on the items that have been waiting in your Amazon cart it's important that you provide yourself with some sort of positive reinforcement. Enjoy the journey!

  3. Break your routine Sometimes, all it takes to break free from complacency is to break your routine. Shake things up by doing something different. Take a different route to work, try a new restaurant, or take up a new exercise routine. The novelty of trying something new can help you break out of your rut and re-energize your spirit.

  4. Surround yourself with positive influences. The people you surround yourself with can have a big impact on your mindset and motivation. Surround yourself with people who are positive, supportive, and driven. Their energy and enthusiasm can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

  5. Embrace discomfort. Breaking free of complacency often requires stepping outside of your comfort zone. Embrace discomfort and push yourself to try new things, even if it feels uncomfortable or scary. Remember, growth and progress often come from pushing past your limits and embracing new challenges.
